Job Description

The Department of Conservation's vision is “New Zealand is the greatest living space on earth” and our purpose, “To work with others to increase the value of conservation to New Zealanders”.

Conservation is of increasing interest to New Zealanders. It is at the heart of some of the most important issues facing our country: protecting and enhancing our natural and historic heritage; contributing to our economic, social and cultural success; and enhancing our wellbeing by encouraging people to connect and contribute to our nature and heritage.

Over the past few years the Department of Conservation has become subject to an increasing level of public and political scrutiny and engagement. In order to build its reputation as a trusted, respected, high integrity public service agency, the Department is seeking to further lift its performance across a number of core public service functions.

The work of Government Services is at the centre of DOC's outcome ‘well-served Government and citizens'.  Government Services leads in this area - we develop and own systems for the engagement with the Minister and Parliament, and for OIA, Transparency, and Privacy Act matters.

In effect, we are driving change across the Department by building understanding and capability.  We develop strategic policy and build guidance and tools.  We give advice and trouble-shoot on matters that are particularly sensitive or complex, especially those that involve ethics and public service standards.  We regularly report to the Senior Leadership Team with strategic advice and performance reporting.

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Advisor with a good understanding of the Privacy Act and its potential for building trust and confidence in government. As part of a growing and pivotal team leading improved practice across the Department, your ability to work with and through others will be important. The successful candidate will have analytical and critical thinking capability, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The Department is committed to equal opportunities for all New Zealanders and promotes diversity in the work force.

Please apply online.  Applications must include a cover letter, CV and evidence of the required capabilities as per the role description.
