The Performance and Quality - Practice and Implementation Team is a small and specialised team. We provide support across Canterbury to our Ministry teams made up of specialist practitioners, advisors and managers based in Christchurch, Ashburton and Timaru.  We work with colleagues right across the Ministry, supporting regional performance and quality, identifying opportunities to build the capability of our workforce to support ‘all learners'. Continuous improvement is an expectation and part of our culture.


An initial focus for the Practice and Implementation Advisor will be on imbedding new service models and best practice for Learning Support and any associated culture shift. Over time the focus will shift to all the Canterbury regional teams.  This position presents an opportunity to work Ministry wide to identify opportunities to connect and support educators and children within a Communities of Learning: Kahui Ako framework.


Reporting to the Performance & Quality Lead you will:

  • demonstrate leadership in the area of practice and facilitate the broadening of practitioners thinking, to an all of systems approach to practice
  • develop a clear picture of current resources available from the Ministry to support whānau, early childhood services, and schools
  • support any agreed changes and  implementation of service improvements for our services
  • support the implementation of the new service delivery model for Learning Support  within the Kahui Ako framework
  • assist with building workforce capability for all regional staff through the organisation and facilitation of professional learning and development
  • develop Ministry wide internal relationships (especially with LS Managers and Practitioners) to ensure that services are well connected and understood
  • develop and maintain external relationships with universities and other ministry workforce training providers
  • liaise with the National Service Leads and make connections with their work programmes where these can support the region
  • contribute to the overall work programme of the Performance and Quality Team
  • other work as requested.


You will have:

  • a relevant tertiary qualification and strong practice knowledge in one of the core Learning Support services
  • a high level of conceptual and analytical ability and an ability to see the big picture
  • strong data interpretation and analysis skills
  • strong interpersonal, collaboration and facilitation skills
  • energy and resilience for facilitating change and skills to influence the region's practice
  • the ability to work flexibly and within a sometimes fast changing education environment
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • a full driver's licence.
