Job Description

School Wide Practitioner

Psychologist or Special Education Advisor

Full-time or part-time position available

We currently have a position available for a Psychologist or Special Education Advisor to work as a School Wide Practitioner in our Positive Behaviour for Learning team (PB4L based in our regional offices).  This role is permanent.

The Ministry of Education are committed to inclusive practice.  We work alongside families, early childhood educators, schools and other agencies in order to make a positive difference for children and young people.

The Ministry funds and delivers Positive Behaviour for Learning programmes and initiatives that aim to turn around problem behaviour in children and young people and to encourage pro-social behaviour to lead to improved learner engagement and achievement.

PB4L School Wide [hyperlink] is a whole school approach to improving learner behaviour and achievement. School Wide Practitioners provide training and ongoing coaching to School-Wide teams set up within the school. They work with these school teams to implement consistent and sustainable behaviour support systems that promote quality teaching and learning. We are seeking a qualified and experienced specialist to join our school wide team in the Wellington Region. The successful applicant will be required to be based in the Wellington area.

Our ideal candidate will have undertaken some post-graduate studies in behaviour management and be an educational psychologist, or hold a degree or diploma in education, special education or other related discipline. Candidates should have proven competence in working with teachers in schools to reduce challenging student behaviours; be confident presenters and facilitators with groups of educators and demonstrate strong relationship management and influencing skills.

If this opportunity interests you apply now using the ‘Apply Online' button.  You can view a job description below or for further information please contact Graeme Jarratt, 04 439 4699.  As part of your application please provide at least two referees.

NB: The nature and scope of the School Wide Practitioner role varies slightly from that described in the generic job description attached below. The School-wide Practitioner is effectively a coach, mentor and best practice resource for the development and maintenance of positive learning behaviour in the education sector.
