About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of approximately 2,500 primary and secondary schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $14.6 billion. The total school property portfolio has a replacement value of $23.5 billion. EIS is also responsible for managing school transport, the schools payroll, and the delivery of technology in Schools. EIS undertakes 3,000 projects per annum; a combination of Ministry led and School Board led projects costing between $500m and $750m per annum.

About the role

The Infrastructure Manager reports to the Regional Infrastructure Manager, and leads a regionally-based group responsible for providing infrastructure management advice and support to schools. The position also plays a key role in issues resolution and school portfolio planning activities at a regional level.

Your key priorities will include:

  • Leading asset management planning and implementation activities within the allocated geographic area
  • Leading and managing the area Infrastructure Advisory Services (IAS) team to ensure effective and efficient operational management of the area school property portfolio
  • Developing and maintaining strong and constructive working relationships with the area's Sector Enablement & Support Education Directors, their staff and the Special Education team, and with the relevant Capital Works Programme Manager and their staff
  • Managing a small case load of schools (generally for schools with more complex property issues or that are of strategic interest) and act as the primary relationship manager for these schools on all matters related to property management.

About you

You will have an extensive background in infrastructure, property or asset management (private and/or public sector) with significant focus on relationship management and a track record of success and results in team management and capability building.

You will also offer:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • An understanding of the mechanics of managing larger property portfolios
  • Familiarity with public sector asset management principles and practices
  • Well developed strategic and critical thinking skills and analytical capability
  • Experience in effective risk management strategies and processes.
