The role of the Pathways & Progress group is to set the direction for what students learn, how they progress and how school leaders and teachers can achieve that for every child and student across years 1 to 13.

The key to this is backing school leaders to deliver the New Zealand curriculum in ways that help them meet the current and future needs of students in the 21st century. 

The group needs people who can look at evidence and important educational trends to design solution, resources, tools and services that lift educational achievement for all, as well as targeting investments and interventions bring about equitable outcomes for all students. 

The people in Pathway & Progress need to be able to work with others to design innovative initiatives that achieve policy intentions, plan successful implementation strategies and monitoring to ensure a return on investment. 

Pathways & Progress ensures there is alignment of the ministry's work programme to fully support student progress and achievement across the curriculum from te whariki through primary and secondary education and the emphasis of successful transitions and pathways for learners across the entire system.


Lead Adviser - Curriculum Design & Assessment

About the role

The Lead Adviser leads the development of substantial and complex curriculum, teaching and learning initiatives within an investment and innovation framework to support school leaders and teachers to lift student achievement.  They provide leadership and guidance about good curriculum and assessment design and practice which will enable students to be engaged in rich and responsive curriculum which will give them the competencies they need for study, work and life.  The Lead Adviser will ensure that work is well informed by information and analysis of what works and applies innovative and investment logic and frameworks to create future proofed designs. 

About the person

The person in this role will be able to work at pace and be agile in managing multiple priorities.  We need a person that can see the big picture and can translate that to others and provide coherency to individual pieces of work across the work programme. Lead projects and initiatives through to implementation and support the rollout to ensure work is transitioned effectively into the sector.

You will have strong evaluative capability and a proven ability to get the job done.  In this role you will be expected to have the kind of political savviness and the background knowledge and expertise in curriculum and assessment that makes you a credible adviser in working with others to design new and innovative responses.

The person will be able to support others to implement and foster high trust relationships when working collaboratively with others to develop solutions to challenging ideas. Building trust and working collaboratively when engaging with internal and external experts, stakeholders to support decision making and sustain improvement and change is central to this role.
