About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as a part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary State schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $16.5 billion.  EIS is also responsible for managing school payroll, school transport and for the delivery of information communication technology in schools.  EIS undertakes around 3,000 projects per annum; a combination of Ministry and School led projects costing at least $800m per annum.

The EIS Business Systems team works with the Ministry Information Technology Group to ensure the effective, pragmatic, smart reuse and management of data, information management systems and technology across EIS.  This activity supports efficiencies in BAU and new business activity as well as ensuring business information and systems are performing optimally delivering expected outcomes and are fit for purpose.

About the role

This role is responsible for leading the Business Systems Information team, including the data warehouse and data quality teams, developing and maintaining process and strategy to support the effective collection, use, organisation, dissemination and management of information assets across EIS. The Information Team Lead also works closely with the EIS Delivery Team Lead on projects and activities when required.

Your key priorities will include: 

  • Management of the Data Warehouse and Data Quality teams to ensure fit for purpose and timely outputs
  • Establishing key relationships across EIS, the Ministry and the sector.
  • Development, review and refinement of all EIS Information related strategies.

About you

You will be a successful Team Leader who has a strong understanding of data management techniques, including data quality, and developments in data accessibility technologies.  Ideally you will have a sound knowledge of IT architectural frameworks and methodologies that may be leveraged to support Information Management.

You will also offer the ability to:

  • communicate at both a general business level and technical level
  • create a team environment focussed on continuous improvement
  • negotiate effectively.
