About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as a part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary State schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $16.5 billion.  EIS is also responsible for managing school payroll, school transport and for the delivery of information communication technology in schools.  EIS undertakes around 3,000 projects per annum; a combination of Ministry and School led projects costing at least $800m per annum.

Planning for and managing the state school property portfolio involves the single largest departmental output expense the Ministry is responsible for in dollar terms. Delivering the land and infrastructure for the future property portfolio requires a focus on purchasing and designating new property to expand the portfolio's capacity to meet the demands of schooling or demographic changes.

About the role

A new position as Project Delivery Manager based out of our Auckland offices has become available.  The role is part of a small specialist team within the national Acquisition and Designation programme and will be responsible for the management and delivery of key projects and strategies throughout New Zealand.  Please note that some travel can be expected.

You will have the opportunity to work with energetic and passionate people within the Ministry and form important strategic/operational relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside the Ministry.  The role will suit those with a property/planning/project management background looking to make a positive difference to education in New Zealand.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have a significant, well regarded, relevant and current experience of property and planning environments, along with well developed experience in leading and managing teams of professionals both at programme and project level. Qualifications/experience relevant to the Public Works Act and Resource Management Act are highly desirable.  You will also offer excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills to represent the Ministry in a range of settings and engage with regional and national project teams. As a strong relationship builder you will have a proven track record in managing teams of consultants with experience in the government sector.

Key success factors for this role are:

  • Sound knowledge of the Public Works Act,  Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, Building Act and Health and Safety in Employment ActStrong financial management with the ability to drive cost accountability
  • Confidence in negotiating high value property transactions
  •  A relevant Project Management qualification is desirable.
