Principal Communications Advisor - Strategic Communications


The Ministry of Education is looking for an experienced senior communications practitioner to join its Communications Group.

This is an opportunity for a committed and energetic communications expert to apply their skills and experience to the rewarding and important task of helping raise student achievement in New Zealand.

While your first priority will be to understand and support the needs of a particular business unit, you will also work on communications projects across the Ministry. You will work within a team of communications professionals who are committed to building and enhancing the reputation of the Ministry.

This is a full time position located in National Office, Wellington.

You will bring to the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field
  • Experience working in a senior communications role in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • Experience across a broad range of communications activities including planning, media management, channel management, internal and external communication and stakeholder engagement
  • An ability to work strategically and collaboratively with clients to identify critical communications risks and opportunities and deliver effective solutions and services
  • Customer focus, teamwork, strategic ability, and a ‘can do' positive attitude
