Now is an exciting time at the Ministry of Education. We are working differently with the sector and communities so that our education system can deliver the best outcomes for children and whānau. 

Senior Education Advisers take a lead role in the licensing of early childhood education (ECE) services and ngā Kōhanga Reo, and in leading initiatives to increase participation.  This requires excellent relationship management skills and an in depth knowledge of the education sector. 

Increasing participation in quality early learning opportunities is one of the Ministry's highest priorities. This role will give you the opportunity to work collaboratively with the sector and communities to develop local solutions that will increase participation and improve quality early learning provision. 

 We would like to hear from you if you have the following:

  • The confidence to work across a diverse range of ECE services and contexts.
  • The ability to speak te reo Māori and experience working in Māori medium settings (for example ngā Kōhanga Reo) is an advantage.
  • Have experience in assessing information to make objective judgments against criteria and recommending  courses of action.
  • Have the ability to analyse complex issues to produce clear and succinct written work with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Have experience in dealing with complex relationships, including influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Have experience managing contracts.
  • A tertiary qualification in early learning is desirable.

The successful candidate will work across the Wellington Region, be based in the Lower Hutt Office and will join a supportive and performance-driven team environment.
