About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as a part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary State schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $17.2 billion.  EIS is also responsible for managing school payroll, school transport and for the delivery of information communication technology in schools.  EIS undertakes around 3,000 projects per annum; a combination of Ministry and School led projects costing at least $800m per annum.

The Capital Works (CW) procurement team deliver procurement activities for Ministry led school construction projects across New Zealand. Currently Capital Works projects equate to $400m (approx.) in construction spend per year. The projects include new schools, school rebuilds, and major redevelopments, addressing roll growth needs, weather-tightness remediation, structural strengthening and minor works.

About the role

Reporting to the National Procurement Manager, the Senior Procurement Team Leader will be part of the Ministry's Capital Works team. The role represents a fantastic opportunity for an individual to lead the management and development of the Capital Works team that delivers ‘end to end' procurement activities for the Northern region. This is a leadership role and development of the Auckland Capital Works Procurement team is required to align the procurement function nationally.  

A solid understanding of construction procurement and commercial procurement experience is required to drive the best outcomes for the Capital Works programmes.

Your Key Priorities will include developing and managing a team whilst identifying and implementing areas of change and improvement through the procurement of project management, design and construction services.

About you

You will have strong leadership and management skills including significant experience in developing and managing a team of procurement professionals. You will ideally be eligible or working towards Associate Member (Level 4) of CIPS and/or a relevant tertiary qualification in Business or Accounting, being a Full Member (Level 6 / MCIPS) is highly desirable

You will also offer:

  • Good commercial and political nous - an understanding of what drives good service value and how to identify and minimise key commercial and political risks
  • Proven experience in managing and leading organisational change
  • The ability to communicate effectively and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience or an understanding of construction projects would be advantageous.
