About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as a part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary State schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $17.2 billion.  EIS is also responsible for managing school payroll, school transport and for the delivery of information communication technology in schools.  EIS undertakes around 3,000 projects per annum; a combination of Ministry and School led projects costing at least $800m per annum.

About the role

The Group Manager, Infrastructure Advisory Services reports to the Deputy Head EIS - Infrastructure Services, and leads a group responsible for providing infrastructure management advice and support to schools. The position also plays a key role in issues resolution and oversees the entire NZ state school property portfolio.

Your Key Priorities will include:

  • Develop and lead school level asset management planning and implementation activities to ensure the national school property portfolio is well managed and schools are supported to achieve good educational outcomes and improve student achievement.
  • Ensure effective and efficient operational management of the national school property portfolio, and that schools have effective support from the Ministry to enable them to manage their school property well.
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with Capital Works staff to achieve a consistent and integrated approach to the problem identification, planning, prioritisation and delivery of improvements to the national school property portfolio.
  • Work with other EIS and other Ministry teams (including specifically Sector Enablement and Support) to achieve the most effective management of the national school property portfolio and to provide consistent, integrated, effective services to/interactions with schools.

About you

You will have a track record of success and results in a senior management role in a large and complex delivery organisation that involved strategic and financial/operational management accountability and a high need for stakeholder engagement.

You will also offer:

  • In depth understanding of the particular demands of managing the delivery of complex services in the public sector, including the delivery of high value services in a political context
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to facilitate outcomes through personal credibility and influence- an effective leadership presence with peers
  • Highly developed strategic and critical thinking skills and analytical capability
  • Strong knowledge of the Government's direction, policy priorities, and budgeting processes
  • Experience in effective risk management strategies and processes.
