The Ministry of Education's purpose is to be the lead advisor on the education system, shaping direction for educational agencies and providers and contributing to the Government's goal for education.

Hudson have the pleasure of working with the Data and Information Stewardship (DIS) group to secure passionate data experts who want to be part of their data journey.  Their vision is to enable the organisation to be better at the collection, evaluation and dissemination of data in order to provide an exceptional customer experience for all New Zealand educational users.  The DIS group has numerous needs at both management and specialist roles within data warehousing, data management and information management.

About you

As the Lead Business Analyst, you are a representative for the Data and Information Stewardship (DIS) team to the wider MoE business. This means you will liaise with the various users of Education data, both within and outside of the organisation to embody the vision of the whole team.

We are looking for a Business Analyst with a true focus on business and processes, all of which is underpinned with a true customer service mindset.

You need to be a self-starter and extremely proactive in supporting the new leadership team of DIS. This involves strategic problem solving, whereby you can provide a range of options to solve complex problems that have been identified. Additionally, you will be required to work across the other parts of the business.

Ultimately, you will be looking for an opportunity to support a newly established team and will be a natural problem solver. You fix problems through educating others and helping them on a journey of realisation and understanding.


You will support the newly established DIS leadership team. Specifically, you will need to help take the team and the users of education data on a journey so that they can realise the full potential data has to offer.  

This will involve:

  • Proactively building a network of stakeholders to liaise with before they are even needed including; teams within DIS, the wider Ministry, other education entities, external Government departments and Ministers.
  • Conducting detailed current and future state analysis
  • Gathering detailed requirements and completing process mapping
  • High level and clear documentation for compliance purposes
  • Provide various option papers to solve complex issues and advise on their suitability
  • Elicit information from a range of people with different levels of technical understanding and various communication styles
  • Facilitating workshops to groups of stakeholders, both internally and to relevant external groups
