The Organisation

The Ministry of Education's purpose is to be the lead advisor on the education system, shaping direction for educational agencies and providers and contributing to the Government's goal for education.

Hudson have the pleasure of working with the Data and Information Stewardship (DIS) group to secure passionate data experts who want to be part of their data journey.  Their vision is to enable the organisation to be better at the collection, evaluation and dissemination of data in order to provide an exceptional customer experience for all New Zealand educational users.  The DIS group has numerous needs at both management and specialist roles within data warehousing, data management and information management.


The Role of Manager Data (DIS)

The Manager Data (DIS) is an influential role that provides the people leadership and strategy for data quality within the group. 

Working closely with the Data Solutions and Warehousing Manager, you will lead data management for the Ministry.  You will be responsible for developing the data strategy for the organisation to ensure we meet future requirements, and constantly look for new data sources to meet the ever increasing demand for data.  You will have a focus on all aspects of data quality (e.g. accuracy, timeliness) and lead your team to exceed the targets you put in place. 

Managing a team of 9 data analysts, you will constantly be looking to improve how the team operates and delivers to their customers.  As part of the DIS leadership team you will contribute to the stewardship of education data and help guide the Ministry on their transformational data journey.


The Person

Your leadership style is inspiring to those you manage.  Through coaching and mentoring of your staff, you have seen them obtain the skills to be curious with their stakeholders in order to deliver high quality data.  Your motivational style means your staff constantly look for ways to improve and show resilience and ownership for the tasks at hand. 

You too are an innately curious person who challenges the status quo in order to identify the root issues and risks and enjoy influencing both across and up the organsiation to ensure all solutions have been considered.  You are a strong communicator who is not afraid to push back when required.   

As someone who champions data, you will have technical skills (e.g. Economics, Statistics) and an eye for detail.  You will challenge in order to make sure we get it right first time.
