Job Description

Chief Policy Analysts, Tertiary Education

Now is an exciting time to work on tertiary education policy. Drive thinking, development and delivery in a busy team.

  • Up to 3 permanent positions
  • Wellington-based.

Our work sits across social and economic policy, and we work closely with other government agencies including the TEC.  The work of the group includes developing the Tertiary Education Strategy; policy work on access to tertiary education, student loans and foundation education; budget advice and the tertiary system as a whole.

We are looking for up to three emerging policy leaders to join us in new Chief Policy Analyst roles, bolstering our policy team capability. In this role you will:

  • Provide intellectual, analytical and professional leadership on policy issues related to the work of your team and the wider group
  • Develop policy and strategic advice on complex issues, to support the Government's overall tertiary education and skills objectives
  • Work in partnership with your team's Senior Manager to shape and drive the policy work programme

If you are right for this role, you will have:

  • Energy, drive, curiosity and enthusiasm
  • The ability to motivate and inspire, coach and mentor your peers
  • Experience building strong and wide-ranging relationships that deliver results
  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, the cultural values and particular needs of Māori. An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, and their implications for the work of policy development is essential
