Special Education Advisor or Early Intervention Teacher

Permanent Full-time position based in Palmerston North


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Special Education Advisor or Early Intervention Teacher in the Learning Support team based in Palmerston North.

The successful applicant will work as part of multi-disciplinary team, collaborating to provide a range of services that support inclusive education for children and young people with high and often complex needs, including those with behaviour challenges.

If you have: skills in assessment, experience in working with whānau/families and teachers to develop and implement strategies to promote access to and participation in early childhood settings and schools; and skills in delivering professional learning and development (workshops and training) then this position could be for you.

The successful applicant will be capable of developing strong collaborative relationships with whānau, educators and other agencies to improve educational outcomes for children and young people with high and complex needs.

To support service provision applicants will need to demonstrate a high level of skill, knowledge and understanding of inclusive education practices. They will also need to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. 

We invite applications from experienced Teachers or Educators who have relevant qualifications, experience and skills in supporting children and young people with complex and ongoing learning needs.

Relevant experience in New Zealand education and in working with young children with significant ongoing additional needs is preferred along with a working knowledge of Te Whariki and the New Zealand Curriculum.

A current driving licence is essential.
