Job Description

Senior Policy Analysts

Wellington - Permanent, Full Time

We are looking for up to four capable and committed senior policy analysts to help lead the development of policy in some high profile, new and challenging areas.

Education is key to our well-being, social cohesion, and citizenship.  It is crucial to New Zealand's ability to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Successful candidates will join our policy community and be based in the Education System Policy Group. We are a group with a strong policy culture that works on issues affecting a huge system that directly impacts the lives of all New Zealanders.

We need Senior Policy Analysts that are keen to have an impact across the entire education system and social sector, and want to see their work contribute to lifting children and young people's outcomes across the whole system.

We have vacancies across most of our teams:

  • The Wellbeing and Learning Support team has a full policy work programme, including looking at education settings for vulnerable, at risk and disengaged students, and ways to improve career services in schools
  • The Governance, Legislation and Accountability team is managing the legislative programme, including new planning and reporting requirements for schools
  • The Systems Policy team is developing a long-term vision for the education system,  and is contributing to policy work across agencies on improving educational outcomes for children in care and protection
  • The ECE Policy team, which provides advice on the regulatory and funding settings for the early learning sector

We would like to hear from you if you have proven policy experience, and

  • Thrive in a fast-paced policy environment
  • Have proven ability to  collaborate with others to find solutions
  • Are a critical thinker and can bring innovative approaches to complex policy issues, and
  • Have sound approaches to developing evidence-based analysis and advice

In return we can offer you the opportunity to contribute to a high profile, challenging and ambitious agenda for change, a strong focus on the development of our people, and the ability to drive and influence policy direction.

Please review the attached Position Description. If this opportunity interests you and you meet the requirements, please apply now using the ‘Apply Online' button. For more information, please contact Anne Fontaine at anne.fontaine@education.govt.nz.

Applications close 2 March 2018.
