Job Description

Analyst / Senior Analyst

We are looking for an Analyst/Senior Analyst who can find the story of the data and communicate it to make a difference.

About you:

You use your analytical ability and statistical knowledge to distil evidence from raw data. You will have experience analysing and reporting on data obtained from structured samples, admin processes and purpose built applications.  Your curiosity leads you not only to ask why, but to test your hypothesis and gain knowledge from experts who have generated the data you analyse.

Not only do you analyse, but you are good at communicating your findings on paper, online, and in person.  Your communication style suits the purpose - whether it is plain English briefings, punchy insights papers or interactive visualisation.  You are confident presenting to non-technical audiences in large groups and in discussion around the table.

You measure yourself by your impact.  You are influential.  You are motivated.  You are always learning and improving.

About the team:

The Educational Measurement and Assessment team is at the forefront of the Ministry's work to understand how our education system is performing as measured by student achievement.

We operate several large-scale sample-based educational research projects to estimate how our system performs compared to the rest of the world.

PISA, PIRLS, TIMSS, TALIS and NMSSA are some of the acronyms.

About the Ministry:

The mission of the Ministry of Education, is to “shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes”.

Our group Evidence, Data and Knowledge's (EDK) vision is to provide high quality evidence to inform policy development and decisions.

We are the analytical engine-room for the Ministry of Education.

This is a permanent position, based in Wellington.
