Job Description

Policy and Senior or Chief Policy Analysts

We are looking for a capable and committed Policy Analyst and either two Senior Policy Analysts or a Senior and a Chief Policy Analyst, to help lead the development of policy in some high profile, new and challenging areas.

Education is key to our well-being, social cohesion, and citizenship.  It is crucial to New Zealand's ability to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Successful candidates will join our policy community and be based in the Education System Policy Group. We are a group with a strong policy culture that works on issues affecting a huge system that directly impacts the lives of all New Zealanders.

We have a challenging and engaging work programme that includes strategic and legislative work and contributes to a number of this Government's education reviews.

We are looking for a Senior Policy Analyst to contribute to the work of the Quality Teaching and Learning Team in System and Schooling Policy.  This team's role is to develop policy to improve teaching and learning for all children and young people in Aotearoa New Zealand and our goal is that every child experiences quality teaching. Quality teaching is the most significant in-school influence on educational outcomes, so this role provides an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to improving outcomes across the system.

We are also looking for a Policy Analyst, and a Senior or Chief Policy Analyst, to work in the Wellbeing and Learning Support team.  This team's role is to develop and improve policy settings that underpin how the system supports students at risk of disengaging from education and not achieving a qualification, and those students who need additional learning support to participate and achieve.

We would like to hear from you if you have proven policy experience, and

  • thrive in a fast-paced policy environment
  • have proven ability to collaborate with others to find solutions
  • are a critical thinker and can bring innovative approaches to complex policy issues and
  • have sound approaches to developing evidence-based analysis and advice.

In return we can offer you the opportunity to contribute to a high profile, challenging and ambitious agenda for change, a strong focus on the development of our people, and the ability to drive and influence policy direction.

For more information, please contact Anne Fontaine at anne.fontaine@education.govt.nz.

Applications close 24 June 2018.
