About this role

The Pouārahi Matua - Group Manager | Government, Executive and Ministerial Services (GEMS) leads teams responsible for providing a comprehensive service across the Ministry on all matters relating to Ministerial and Parliamentary requests, processes and responses, including the provision of advice, support and guidance to Managers and their staff.

The Pouārahi Matua - Group Manager GEMS is also responsible for managing the Ministry's parliamentary private secretaries based in Ministers' offices at Parliament.

This role is a challenging and rewarding one, working with senior managers and staff across the Ministry of Education as well as with Ministers' offices to ensure the Ministry delivers excellent services to the people we serve.

The role leads the Ministry's high volume, high pace official correspondence, parliamentary questions and Official Information Act requests, Select Committee appearances and manages the Ministry's interface with Education Ministers' offices.

It has a strong relationship management focus and requires high integrity, ethical leadership, a strong spirit of service and expertise in government and parliamentary processes.

 

Key accountabilities are as follows:

  • Provide timely strategic advice to Ministers, the Secretary for Education, the Ministry's Leadership Team and the Communications team
  • Lead and promote transparency and accountability across the Ministry
  • Ensure robust systems and processes are in place
  • Lead and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the GEMS teams
  • Provide positive leadership that supports a professional, resilient, high-performing culture and backs the team to succeed
  • Seize opportunities and manage organisational risk to ensure we meet our responsibilities to Ministers and Parliament, and the people we serve

 

About you

We are looking for a manager with proven experience in leading the team that supports the Ministry to ensure we meet our obligations when it comes to replying to parliamentary and official processes, open government, and supporting Ministers.
