Job Description

About this role

This is a pivotal, highly strategic and influential leadership role which focuses on Māori enjoying and achieving educational success as Māori.  As the Raukura, you will work with leaders across the Ministry and the education sector to accelerate Māori achievement.

Across the Ministry you will:

  • have collective responsibility for organisational leadership as a member of our Leadership Team.
  • Provide advice and leadership to help accelerate equitable outcomes for Māori and the promotion of Māori identity, language and culture.
  • Support Ministers, the Secretary for Education and senior leaders to respond to Treaty of Waitangi business and related matters.
  • Lead our organisation, and our education system to be culturally responsive through our Te Ara Whiti Framework.
  • Embed our approach to incorporating Te Tiriti o Waitangi into how we work with whanau, hapū, iwi and Māori organisations.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to implement Te Hurihanganui, our new strategy to build Māori cultural capability within the Education Sector.
  • Play a key leadership role in building our organisation's capability to partner with Māori.

 

About you

You will be a respected leader with a deep understanding of Te Reo, Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori.  An understanding of the public sector is vital, and your ability to work with Ministers and provide trusted advice is particularly important.  We are looking for someone who has strong relationships with iwi, hapū, whanau and Māori communities.  Your extensive networks and relationships in the Māori medium sector will enable you to inform and provide high quality advice to guide policy analysis and development, and will be key to your success in this role.
