Job Description

Senior Policy Analyst - International Division

  • Important, high profile and rewarding work
  • Collegial group with a great culture
  • Complex and high profile work

Education is key to our well-being, social cohesion, and citizenship.  It is crucial to New Zealand's ability to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth.   We work on issues affecting a huge system and directly impacting the lives of New Zealanders.   Our work is high profile, challenging and rewarding.

Work on some fascinating policy issues

We have two exciting opportunities available in the International Education team. We are looking to build our team.  We have two roles to fill - a Senior Policy Analyst role and a Policy Analyst role.

The International Education team is where we work to develop and provide advice that supports international education and the increasing cultural diversity within our education system. NZ has a vibrant and high quality international education sector - it's our fourth largest export industry, worth $5.1b to our economy.  We have just released the New Zealand International Education Strategy 2018-2030. Policy work sitting under the Strategy includes advice on Government priorities in international education, strengthening international student wellbeing and building quality in international education.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced senior policy analyst with experience in leading policy projects and advice to Ministers.

To be successful in this role you'll be someone who is known for their energy, drive, curiosity and enthusiasm.  As a Senior Analyst you will be able to coach and mentor your peers; and build strong and wide-ranging relationships, internally and externally, that deliver results. You will also  be developing high quality advice for Ministers working with other policy staff and managers. This will involve applying and adapting the Ministry's policy frameworks and leading and managing specific policy projects

Join our great culture

We're proud of the culture in our policy teams.  We asked our policy people what it's like to work here and this is what they told us:

The managers are great. There's so much scope to step up and take on responsibility - and be supported when doing this.  Good performance is acknowledged. There's a real focus on training and development.

Our leaders are loyal and have your back. They're willing to be influenced by good advice and good ideas.

There's a genuine commitment to work life balance. We work hard - but there's flexibility.

There's a sense of teamwork.  People are passionate about achieving outcomes and making a difference.

If you have proven policy experience we'd love to hear from you.
