Job Description

Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst - Tertiary Education Policy

Now is an exciting time to work on tertiary education policy. Drive thinking, development and delivery in a busy team.

  • 2 permanent positions
  • Wellington-based.

We are looking for two capable and committed Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analysts to join our Vocational & Skills Policy and Funding & Fees Policy teams, to lead the development of policy in some high profile, new, and challenging areas. This will include working on the reform of vocational education - a once in a generation system change, helping to gear New Zealand up for the future of work.

Our work sits across social and economic policy, and we work closely with other government agencies including MBIE, the Treasury and the TEC.  The work of the group includes developing the Tertiary Education Strategy; policy work on access to tertiary education, vocational education and training, student loans and foundation education; budget advice and the tertiary system as a whole.

We need an experienced Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst that is keen to have an impact across the education system.  In particular, your work will contribute to potential significant education reforms arising from the Review of Vocational Education.

We would like to hear from you if you:

  • Thrive in a fast-paced policy environment
  • Have proven ability to  collaborate with others to find solutions
  • Are a critical thinker and can bring innovative approaches to complex policy issues
  • Have sound approaches to developing evidence-based analysis and advice
  • Have experience providing high quality advice to senior leadership teams and Ministers
  • Will bring a ‘can do' attitude and take ownership of your work to deliver the best results
  • Have strong interpersonal and influencing skills and can work collaboratively across the Ministry, government, and with external stakeholder groups; and
  • Have sound judgement, integrity and discretion.

In return we can offer you the opportunity to contribute to a high profile, challenging and ambitious agenda for change, a flexible working environment with a collegial, supportive, and hardworking team, a strong focus on the development of our people, and the ability to drive and influence policy direction.
