About our group

Our job in Operations and Infrastructure Services (OIS) is to ‘keep the lights' on when it comes to ministry IT. This means keeping the infrastructure and Ministry applications well maintained so that they are available when needed, and are secure. Our work includes maintaining the network infrastructure for 2 data centres, cloud connectivity, national and district office networks - wired and wireless, and Ministry applications. We manage these systems so that as the Ministry's needs change our systems are able to respond.


About the role

We have recently undertaken a review of our current workforce and have identified a number of roles we need to fill to ensure that our strong delivery commitment is continued at a high standard and as a result of this opportunity for a talented Senior Network Engineer within the Network and Unified Communications team.


About you

You will have a solid engineering background and possess a strong operational understanding of network technology that enable you to successfully manage complex data networks. 

Your role will encompass all of the telecommunications systems and services supported by the OIS team.  A strong focus is on providing a key link with external vendors and the education sector partners. Strong experience using CISCO/CISCO Wi-Fi/Checkpoint/FortiGate/VMware-NSX is required, along with a strong understanding of network security, WAN, LAN, complex vLans would be highly beneficial. 

Ideally you'll have an outgoing friendly nature and be a clear communicator and strong team player. As this is an operational role there will be some work required out of hours and occasionally some travel to the data centres so a driver's license is also required.
