The Organisation

The Ministry of Education's purpose is to be the lead advisor on the education system, shaping direction for educational agencies and providers and contributing to the Government's goal for education.

The Data Team is looking to secure a passionate data expert who wants to be part of their data journey. Their vision is to enable the organisation to be better at the collection, evaluation and dissemination of data in order to provide an exceptional customer experience for all New Zealand educational users.

The Role of Senior Data Analyst

The Senior Data Analyst designs, implements and manages processes for sourcing and producing quality data for a number of stakeholders.  With a passionate curiosity for data and a commitment to data quality, you will lead innovative thinking as to how quality can be achieved.

Given this is a senior role, you will also help to coach and mentor those less experienced in the team in order to lift their data capabilities and champion best practices for data management.

The Person

With a background in data analysis, you will enjoy working across the Ministry and external stakeholders to question what they are trying to see from the data.  You are motivated to identify the root cause, provide solutions and communicate findings in an understandable way.  You are both technically strong and have exceptional communication skills and like to present findings to a variety of audiences.

Experience manipulating large datasets using SAS, SQL or equivalent is essential.
