About our group and team
Te Puna Hanganga Matihiko as part of the Ministry of Education, manages the Crown's second largest property portfolio of around 2,100 schools with a book value of $23.7 billion and transportation of over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
The Manager, Health and Safety leads a team of specialists developing and maintaining the Te Puna Hanganga Matihiko health and safety system. We build capability and understanding within group to ensure effective H&S risk management practices are adopted by third party providers. The H&S team supports school boards of trustees by providing information and guidance on managing property H&S risks.

The Manager Health and Safety is a leading role that enables the Ministry of Education to successfully influence health and safety performance across school property. and construction and transport contracting chains (both internally and externally) to achieve positive H&S practices that meet or exceed legislative due diligence requirements.
The focus of this role is to coordinate and oversight the delivery of H&S initiatives within The group to focus on contractor management to achieve positive H&S outcomes across the construction and transport chains and the safe use of school property.
Working with the Director Risk and Assurance, the Manager H&S provides advice and recommendations to the Te Puna Hanganga Matihiko Leadership Team and other stakeholders on the appropriate response to critical H&S risks and identifying where management interventions may be needed

To be successful in the role, you'll be working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders, developing relationships at all levels. You'll be communicating your ideas through high quality written advice. We'll also count on you to shape, frame and design our process and thinking.to achieve high quality H&S outcomes.
You will also offer:
- Management and sector leadership experience in leading or delivering H&S risk management practices in large or complex organisations or industries
- Ability to lead and manage a high performance team of specialist professionals
- Skills in influencing all levels of management and staff in matrix organisational structures
- A relevant tertiary qualification including H&S Diploma level or NEBOSH cerification
- the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
