At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | the Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

We are making significant changes to how we deliver our purpose

So that we are:

  • Taking practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Giving priority to regional and local voice.
  • Delivering greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support.
  • Improving feedback loops and information flows.

About our group and team

He Pūmanawa Tāngata | The People Capability team supports people leaders to build high-performing teams capable of delivering on our purpose. We understand that to get the best outcomes for children, young people and adult students, our people need to be at their best too.

We provide advice and support with workforce planning, capability development, organisational design, diversity and inclusion, and wellbeing, as well as everyday recruitment services and employment relations advice.

Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing is part of the Employee Experience team and collectively we work to create positive work-place experiences and Hauora | organisational health by.

  • Prioritising diversity, inclusion and wellbeing
  • Listening and responding to our people when they share their whakaaro | feedback, via Ministry conducted surveys
  • Facilitating positive culture changes when employees provide feedback
  • Creating efficient induction experiences, for people to feel like they belong and know the Ministry's purpose and
  • Being guided by He Huarahi Pai, our workforce experience strategy, and its intent of making our Ministry a great place to work

Ensuring our people have positive work-place experiences and prioritising diversity, inclusion and wellbeing, enables us to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes for Aotearoa.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role

In this role you will get to build on a strong foundation already in place for our diversity, inclusion and wellbeing work programme and take it to the next level.  You will support and enable our employee networks; analyse and advise on opportunities; and design and deliver organisation wide initiatives that will create excellence in workplace diversity and inclusion and enhance wellbeing of our kaimahi.

You will be part of a team which takes a collaborative, curious and creative approach.  We share expertise across and contribute to the work programmes of others.  The broader team includes focuses on capability, talent, employee experience, learning, and recruitment and as a whole we have a significant role in delivering on He Huarahi Pai, our people strategy.

Mōhou ake | About you

We're looking for someone who has an affinity for diversity, inclusion and wellbeing.  You will also have depth of experience in designing initiatives that create change within large complex organisations and proven experience delivering on those.

You'll be open, passionate, and respectful.  This is a role where influence is also key so you will be adept at building relationships and getting confidence of a variety of stakeholders.  You will have the ability to understand and apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ensure that is at the forefront of our work.
