Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Manager, Engagement will focus on developing and executing the strategy for engagement and communication with key stakeholders across Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga, Education Workforce This includes both internal and external stakeholders including educators and peak bodies. It involves continuous improvement and feedback loops to enhance services, improve information sharing and deliver against customer needs and expectations.
Further to this the Manager Engagement will:
- Support development and the delivery of high-quality engagement strategies, frameworks, tools, and processes.
- Manage proactive and reactive communications with stakeholders and audiences in partnership with Ministry colleagues working in local communities.
- Lead media and multi-channel communications, marketing and events.
- Deliver communications and engagement advice
- Lead stakeholder mapping and analysis including development of management plans, surveys and other approaches to inform our understanding of the impact of our approach on key user groups and stakeholders.

Mōhou ake | About you
The Manager Engagement will thrive in a fast-paced environment and navigate complexity with ease. You'll be a proactive, collaborative and inclusive leader who is committed to supporting others to grow, embrace change and seek out diverse perspectives.
You will have expertise in building productive relationships and partnerships, including with iwi and leading an engagement and communications function that continuously improves and adapts to meet customer need.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
You will demonstrate:
- A proven ability to lead a team through a significant period of change
- Demonstrated experience coaching team members and constructively challenging the status quo to shift mindsets.
- A proven ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Sound knowledge of government and public sector processes, including responding to media and government enquiries, OIA's and WPQ's.
- A high level of confidence with regard to cultural competencies.
Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau. To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
