Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Education Adviser, Māori Engagement works to support the individual student pathway for Māori children and young people, particularly those who are disengaged from education. They ensure Māori children and young people, parents and whānau and iwi perspectives are considered and embedded in programmes of work, new initiatives, implementation and change, in order to deliver educational success.

Mōhou ake | About you
We are looking for a person who has:
- An understanding of Te reo Māori me ona tikanga with a level of fluency that enables you to communicate effectively when required at a level acceptable to the audience
- An understanding of factors influencing achievement and participation for Māori students with currency in curriculum delivery, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and experience in Māori medium
- Successful experience of working with Māori students and communities
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with student achievement data to determine needs and priorities
- An ability to develop strong working relationships both within and outside the Ministry to support and implement change initiatives
- An understanding of Ka Hikitia, and Tau Mai Te Reo, and how these documents impact on the work
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau. To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
