Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
Our Senior Privacy Advisors report to and provide expert advice and support to the Manager Privacy. Situated in the Legal and Privacy Group, the privacy team develops and delivers a programme of work to lift the Ministry's privacy compliance, capability and culture.
This includes:
- Sharing specialist knowledge and advice to support good privacy processes and practices, including input into responses to privacy assessments, requests, complaints and incidents.
- Promoting a strong privacy culture by working collaboratively with other advisors and senior advisors, managers and their teams to increase awareness and understanding of our privacy responsibilities and obligations.
- Leading and/or contributing to projects and initiatives as part of the Ministry's privacy programme.
This is a new team, formed as a result of organisational change. The role presents a unique opportunity to shape an effective privacy function, and to establish your mark on the privacy culture at Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga.

Salary range: $96,598 - $117,175 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

Mōhou ake | About you
As one of our Senior Privacy Advisors,
- You have a keen interest in privacy, and an in-depth understanding of the Privacy Act 2020 and relevant legislation, policies and standards.
- You have a proven ability to exercise sound judgement to identify, mitigate and escalate risk.
- You are able and willing to work collaboratively, pragmatically and productively to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Preferred applicants will have a relevant tertiary or industry qualification and at least two years' relevant professional experience, either in privacy or a related domain
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau. To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
