Kaiwhakahere Kaupapa Matua | Senior Project Managers - Environmental Policy Implementation at Ministry for the Environment, Flexible

Manatū Mō Te Taio has established a new Policy Implementation and Delivery (PID) business group to provide the bridge between national policy and regional implementation.   PID's functions span implementation of freshwater, indigenous biodiversity and resource management reform policy implementation alongside other functions including investment and the PMO (where these roles sit).  Our work programmes involve working with Regional Councils, Tangata Whenua and other central agencies to implement policy to achieve good environment outcomes. 

 

Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About the roles

We are looking for two experienced Kaiwhakahere Kaupapa Matua | Senior Project Managers to work alongside our Managers (who have people and financial responsibilities) to provide effective planning and project management services to enable clarity and momentum in delivery.     

The two roles are:

  1. Project managing implementation of the reformed resource management system for first tranche regions, fixed term to 30 Jun 2024
  2. Project managing implementation of water and land use policy work including freshwater and indigenous biodiversity policy to 30 Mar 2024.

While both roles are fixed term, the Ministry is in a growth phase and the demand for project management skills continues to grow. We need people who can easily work alongside our partners and internally with our Managers, Principal Advisors and Senior Analysts / Analysts who frequently operate in Project Lead roles. Both roles involve project management capability building in others including with Coordinators, Seniors and Analysts. 

We have a busy delivery environment and are in the process of rolling out agile ways of working while also continually looking for ways to improve our practices and deliver the highest value solutions.

It's an exciting time for us as a Ministry as we implement the biggest environmental changes in a generation.  You will work alongside a dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about our environment and their mahi while also having fun.

Our ideal candidates will bring:

  • experience leading and planning and managing successful projects in an agile way
  • project management qualification (i.e. Agile, PMP, PRINCE2 Certified Practitioner or Foundation Accredited)
  • ability to work effectively with a diverse programme team and stakeholders and partners at all levels
  • highly developed negotiating, influencing and communication skills
  • enjoy working in a fast-paced environment in uncharted territory
  • ability to manage a high workload and competing demands
  • commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori

 

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range

Salary range for this role is from $132,139 up to $161,502 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
