| About Us

WE ARE the Education Review Office | Te Tari Arotake Mātauranga (ERO), the New Zealand government's external evaluation agency that informs and facilitates improvement in schools/kura and early learning services.  We work to build a high performing equitable education system and believe equity and excellence in outcomes is possible for all learners when the mahi centres on Ko te tamaiti te pūtake o te kaupapa - the child, the heart of the matter.

We are seeking to appoint Review Officers with Secondary School experience, particularly speakers of te reo Māori and a strong knowledge of te ao Māori,  to work as evaluators within the Waikato rohe and across the motu. These roles are within the Review and Improvement Services (RIS) Group.

WE WANT YOU if you have …

  • significant experience in education leadership roles that's included using evaluation to guide improvement
  • proven expertise in collaborating and partnering to bring about improvements to teaching and learning and school performance
  • deep knowledge of the Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and/or New Zealand Curriculum, assessment and pedagogy
  • a high level of expertise in analysing and making sense of qualitative and quantitative information and using it to support improvement
  • ability to establish and sustain trusting and respectful professional relationships that progress the mahi
  • curiosity, flexibility, and openness to other people's perspectives and innovation
  • highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • the capacity to respectfully and constructively challenge norms and assumptions, and to hold the line when the going gets tough
  • a growth mindset and accountability for your own ongoing learning and improvement and high performance.

YOU MUST have the following to be considered for this role…

  • recent education/teaching experience in Aotearoa New Zealand and a working understanding of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and /or The New Zealand Curriculum and assessment practices and tools
  • a professional work ethic, that includes serving the government of the day as a public servant
  • experience leading teams effectively and participating productively as a team member
  • your drivers' licence and be prepared to travel and be away from home for short periods of time
  • a proven commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and valuing of bicultural partnerships
  • proven ability to manage multiple tasks and competing demands
  • the ability to organise evidence and produce clear, accurate, coherent and succinct public reports.


Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

Evaluator roles are permanent positions. They are part of the Review and Improvement Services (RIS) group. The focus of the role is to evaluate the quality of education provided by schools for Māori learners and diverse learners and from these evaluations, support school improvement and prepare reports that are made available to the public. Starting salary: $102,443 + superannuation
