Job Description

  • Do you thrive in a busy and fast-paced environment?
  • Do you want to help build a new website and be part of a project that will simplify and redefine how customers perceive and engage with Inland Revenue?

Then read on…

  • Hands-on role, ensuring our content is designed and developed for our customers
  • Wellington based, fixed term to end of June 2019

Here at Inland Revenue we are well advanced into a multi-year business transformation to modernise our entire operation.  Our goal is to give customers the best possible experience when using the New Zealand tax system, through becoming a customer-centric and intelligence-led organisation. The new platform and organisation will significantly change how we seek insights, operate and engage with customers, and the way that our people undertake their work.

About the role

As a Digital Content Writer for the Website Rebuild Project, you'll be developing and writing content by engaging with key stakeholders, observing and taking part in customer testing, and working in a closely knit team supported by our partners.

We are taking a ground-up approach to completely redesign how we write for our customers and how we present this information, enabled by a new website content management system that allows exciting new ways to structure and present information.

At the core of it, our team is about making information simple, clear and concise and developed for our customer.  You'll be working with a broad range of content, from the highly tax technical to legislation or policy updates, as well as informing customers of key dates and information impacting their daily lives.

This is no ordinary editing or writing job. The last time the Inland Revenue website was re-platformed and re-designed in this way was more than 15 years ago.  The project is supported by a team of UX Experience Designers, Visual Designers and Sitecore Specialists to ensure we make the most of this opportunity.

What we're looking to see from you:

  • The ability to take complex information and quickly turn key messages into plain English.
  • An awareness of how customer's react to online information; you understand the principles of effective writing and can mitigate obvious pain points.
  • Preferable experience of working with a Web CMS.
  • Previous experience in a hands-on digital writing and editing role, ideally in a large and complex organisation.
  • A glorious delight for grammar and well-structured content.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.  There will be times when your priorities shift without much warning, and we need you to keep focused and deliver a quality outcome.
  • The ability to engage with stakeholders, build strong professional relationships and set clear expectations.
  • Enjoyment for what you do.
  • Preferably you will have experience working in an Agile environment.

It's important to us that you feel comfortable in bringing your whole self to work; the team here are diverse and we love it.
