Job Description

We are now recruiting for Assistant Policy Analysts in our Policy and Strategy Group as part of Inland Revenue's graduate recruitment round. These are 2-year Fixed Term positions, commencing in January 2018.

Policy and Strategy (PAS) is responsible for providing policy advice to the Government on tax and social policy issues and leading the development of Inland Revenue's strategy. In the policy side of PAS we develop, manage and communicate tax and social policy using the generic tax policy process (GTPP). Our advice is provided jointly with the Treasury, and other agencies when required.

Our current key areas of work include:

  • Improving the current tax system within a broad-base low-rate tax framework
  • International tax reforms, including base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) and participating in OECD activities
  • The policy implications of Business Transformation, including work on tax administration for the 21st Century and the legislative changes to support the transformation change agenda
  • Social policy administered by Inland Revenue and information sharing across government

You will be both applying and continuing your learning while working in a busy ‘policy shop'. Being at the forefront of the ‘machinery of government' you will be exposed to a variety of work that includes, but is not limited to, tax legislation, bill cycles, writing reports and servicing the Minister's office.

We are looking for graduates with strong academic backgrounds and the ability to work well with others. A background in tax is not essential but you do need to possess critical thinking and take pride in delivering quality results.

When applying please ensure your application includes the following:

  • Your CV
  • Your Cover Letter
  • Your FULL Academic Transcript
  • A sample of your written work (this does not have to be tax related)

Details about the role can be found in the attached Job Expectation. Should you require further information please contact Fiona Ramson on 0800 IR Jobs or 04 890-2126 or via email at: fiona.ramson@ird.govt.nz

It's easy to apply!  Just click on “apply”, complete the on-line application information and attach the required documentation.

Applications close Wednesday 23 August 2017.
