Ranger Project Lead Heritage and Visitors at Department of Conservation, Nelson - Marlborough

Mō te tūranga | About the role
Reporting to the Principal Ranger, you'll manage and deliver operational initiatives across campgrounds in the Marlborough Sounds district. While some sites are small and require minimal oversight, others, like our busy Momorangi Bay campground, require day to day leadership and coordination. This role combines office-based planning with fieldwork and includes rostered duties from time to time.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Leading seasonal rangers, camp hosts, and casual staff in the field, including tasking and rostering.
  • Overseeing daily campground operations to keep facilities running smoothly.
  • Supporting the delivery of operational initiatives and projects.
  • Coordinating cross-functional teams and resources to achieve project outcomes.
  • Managing facilities and amenities projects, including plans, timelines, budgets, and risk assessments.
  • Monitoring progress and reporting on milestones and performance.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

We're looking for an organised, people-focussed team player who's passionate about delivering great visitor experiences.

If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Experience managing public facilities or visitor services.
  • Experience maintaining infrastructure (e.g. buildings, water supplies, sewerage systems).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage conflict and work across diverse groups.
  • Familiarity with computerised booking systems.
  • Ability to lead staff, previous people leadership experience is desirable.
  • A strong focus on health and safety with the ability to promote a positive safety culture.
  • A current full driver's licence.

The salary range for this position is $68,878 to $87,265 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
