Te Tākinatanga - Our Story

The work of the Toitū Te Whenua Land Information NZ ensures responsible overseas investment for a prosperous New Zealand. New Zealand values its land and business assets and it is considered to be a privilege for an overseas person to acquire them. Toitū Te Whenua will be implementing significant overseas investment reform over the next year including changes to the way we assess applications and ensure investment is not contrary to our national interest.

 

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

Toitū Te Whenua assists the Government in applying the Overseas Investment Act 2005.  

We assess applications from overseas investors wishing to purchase sensitive assets and advises ministers on whether or not to grant consent. We also make consent decisions itself, under delegations from ministers.

In addition, we also enforce the provisions of the Act to ensure investors gain consent when required; give truthful and complete information about themselves and their plans; and keep the commitments they made when they were granted consent.

Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is the government department responsible for land related functions (including land titles), geodetic and cadastral survey systems, topographic information, hydrographic information, managing Crown property and administering the Overseas Investment Act.

As part of our proficient and professional team, you'll be provided with a broad variety of challenging work which will include assessing applications from overseas investors to invest in sensitive New Zealand assets, and the formulation of advice to aid decision making. You will also have variety through pitching-in and work across the different functions across the office so that we have the flexibility needed to respond as the demand and priorities change.

We have an opportunity for a Principal Advisor to join our highly skilled and welcoming team. This position provides an excellent opportunity to apply advanced legal skills, commercial acumen, and technical leadership to the delivery of advisory services to the Crown.  You will come with an advanced and composite skillset that includes legal experience.  You will have good commercial nous and judgement along with professional integrity. 

 

He pūkenga tou - Skills & Experience:

Key to this role is providing advice to Managers and Solicitors / Advisors on complex issues. You will also be engaging with applicants and their advisors to help them understand the rules, peer reviewing assessment reports on investment, building the technical expertise of the office and leading improvement initiatives. 

You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to give feedback constructively and to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including Ministers and their offices).

You will have experience of coaching and mentoring junior staff. You must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.

The salary banding for this position is $112,849 - $152,677.
