This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast paced and interesting area of law, with the chance to work on leading cases with talented external counsel.

We are looking for an experienced Solicitor with excellent litigation and/or public law skills to join our Enforcement team in the Overseas Investment Office.

In this role your primary focus will be on carrying out enforcement action, including managing litigation and assisting with investigations.  You will be involved in advising on evidence and public law issues in relation to potential breaches of overseas investment rules.  You will have the chance to work with fantastic lawyers and have a great opportunity to help develop case law.

As the successful candidate you will have strong litigation skills, with the ability to consider innovative solutions and practically manage litigation files.  You will enjoy working as part of a cohesive, high functioning team, and display excellent communication skills. With an ability to effectively manage conflict, you will be able to hold robust conversations and confidently interact with external advisors. You will ideally have a sound knowledge of property and/or administrative law.

A law degree and a current practicing certificate (or ability to hold one) is essential.

About Us

The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) is responsible for applying the Overseas Investment Act 2005.  This Act makes sure New Zealand's sensitive assets are in good hands and enables overseas investment that benefits New Zealand.

The OIO assesses applications from overseas investors wishing to purchase sensitive assets and advises Ministers on the application of the Act to applications to acquire assets.

The OIO also enforces the provisions of the Act to ensure investors gain consent when required; give truthful and complete information about themselves and their plans; and keep the commitments they made when they were granted consent.

The OIO is part of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) which is the government department responsible for land related functions (including land titles), geodetic and cadastral survey systems, topographic information, hydrographic information, managing Crown property and administering the Overseas Investment Act.
