Job Description

  • Have you successfully built and led an engaged and effective team?
  • Do you thrive in a fast paced and high profile area?
  • Are you interested in playing a key role in protecting New Zealand's sensitive assets?

At Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), we underpin New Zealand's success with information about ‘where' - ensuring New Zealand has accurate information about where people and places are, that people have confidence in their property rights, now and for future generations.

The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) is an integral part of Land Information New Zealand, and will be implementing new legislation aimed at benefitting New Zealanders. Recently the Government announced its intention to restrict some overseas people from buying residential property in New Zealand. However those who bring particular benefits to New Zealand will be able to apply to the OIO for consent to purchase, and we are growing our capacity to respond to these applications.

In this newly created role Manager Applications (Residential) you'll be responsible for establishing, leading and developing a team of Case Officers who will assess and advise on residential applications under the new legislation.  We are looking for a strong operational people leader with experience in developing a stable, process oriented work environment.  You will collaborate closely with other teams across the OIO to ensure collective responsibility for making decisions on applications for consent and sign off of advice to Ministers.

We are looking for someone who has a strong track record of delivering in a fast paced area; a focus on making processes clear and easy to understand and always looking for improvement opportunities.

Join a smart, hands-on regulator at an exciting time of strong growth and developing maturity and be part of making sure New Zealand's assets are in the right hands, and enabling overseas investment that benefits New Zealanders.   An in-depth understanding of the machinery of government, particularly in a regulatory context, will be advantageous.  Apply online and submit your CV and cover letter outlining your skills and experience for this role.  The position description for the role is attached.

For further information on this role please contact Leanne on

Applications close at 5.00 pm Sunday 24th June 2018.

About OIO

The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) assists the Government in applying the Overseas Investment Act 2005.  This Act makes sure New Zealand's sensitive assets are in good hands, and enables overseas investment that benefits New Zealand.

The OIO assesses applications from overseas investors wishing to purchase sensitive assets, and advises ministers on whether or not to grant consent. The OIO also makes consent decisions itself, under delegations from ministers.

The OIO also enforces the provisions of the Act to ensure investors gain consent when required; give truthful and complete information about themselves and their plans; and keep the commitments they made when they were granted consent.

The OIO is part of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) which is the government department responsible for land related functions (including land titles), geodetic and cadastral survey systems, topographic information, hydrographic information, managing Crown property and administering the Overseas Investment Act.
