Job Description

  • Full time Senior Business Advisor role
  • Opportunity for experienced Advisor to step up in a high profile area
  • Based in Wellington, CBD

2018 is going to be a huge year for the Building System Performance branch (BSP) at MBIE.  BSP is the Government's lead advisor on the building regulatory system and we want to be world-leading.

Last year we transformed how we work to make sure we're ready for 2018 and beyond.  You'll have heard about KiwiBuild and not surprisingly we have a big role to play in it.  As well as delivering more affordable houses for New Zealanders, KiwiBuild is also an opportunity to shape the building regulatory system to meet New Zealand's current and future needs.  And that's where you come in…

Ensuring that the building regulatory system supports New Zealand's social and economic aspirations is a very big undertaking, but at MBIE such challenges are what drives us. It's a place where if you see an opportunity to make things better and to enhance the system, you're empowered to act on that opportunity.

About the role

The Business Services Team within BSP branch works to shape and drive the branch's operating model, business planning process and leads the branch work programme. The team also looks after procurement and contract management.

As a Senior Business Advisor within this team you will be responsible for working in partnership with managers to strengthen the overall capability of the BSP branch, and help ensure the quality and consistency of advice, services and practices.

You will support the Business Manager in establishing and maintaining relevant governance and leadership arrangements.

You will also provide support on things like planning and reporting, preparation of business plans, stakeholder engagement and being a key contact between the group and other groups within MBIE.

Why work for us

  • Enjoy the variety that each day brings with the different people you meet and things you get involved in.
  • Sense of satisfaction from identifying barriers and facilitating solutions in a relationship management focussed role.
  • Enjoy the open plan, friendly and supportive team environment that exists within MBIE.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • A strong understanding of the machinery of government processes that underpin the operations of the public sector environment, such as Cabinet and parliamentary processes, accountability, and the performance, reporting and financial management regime
  • Good project planning and management skills
  • Proven ability to think strategically, develop frameworks and manage organisation wide systems and processes
  • Strong communication skills and a can-do attitude
  • Stakeholder Management framework experience a bonus
  • A relevant tertiary qualification preferred and/or comparable experience of working within a government environment on strategy and business development and planning
