  • Two roles in MBIE's Legal Branch, primarily supporting MBIE's Business Integrity Services Branch
  • One permanent role and one 12-month fixed term/secondment role
  • Busy roles with a high degree of client interaction

MBIE's Legal Branch is responsible for providing a centre of leadership and expertise for legal advice for MBIE, and is an exemplar of best practice for both the public service and the wider New Zealand labour and business markets. 

These roles are for a Senior Solicitor and a Solicitor who will be part of the Legal Branch and will primarily provide advice to MBIE's Business Integrity Services Branch. That Branch's mission is to help grow New Zealand for all, by ensuring the quality and integrity of New Zealand's corporate registers, intellectual property rights, insolvency and trustee services, and management of criminal proceeds.  The Branch includes the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ), the New Zealand Insolvency and Trustee Service, and the Companies Office.

To be successful in these roles, you will need to have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in law and a practising certificate
  • Experience in public law and/or working in the commercial, company and/or insolvency sector
  • A solid understanding of the mechanisms of government, including regulatory compliance and enforcement, or a desire to learn
  • Strong legal technical skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audience
  • Strong relationship management skills and an ability to work well with others
  • For the Senior Solicitor role, the ability to lead assignments and to coach and mentor other team members
  • Enthusiasm, drive and a proactive nature
