Job Description

The Corporate Governance and Information Group (CGI) formed in 2015 as part of the re-shaping of MBIE's corporate functions. The CGI group was created as a result of “building a high performing MBIE” to provide expert support and advice to MBIE business groups.

We are now looking to refresh and strengthen our capability within CGI by focusing on the key areas where we are best placed to optimise organisational performance. This next phase of our journey will ensure that we are well positioned to support the wider MBIE in Growing New Zealand for All.

The Senior Advisor position reports to the Director, Organisational Governance & Strategy and supports all phases of MBIE's governance system for specific SLT sub-committees or other pan-MBIE groups as directed. The groups to be supported may change from time to time.
This position is also responsible for supporting the Principal Advisor Governance with the assessment of material and follow up on decisions for SLT as required.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven ability and experience in working with professional boards, specifically providing a wide range of board and governance support services to a high standard.
  • The ability to develop bespoke, high quality fit for purpose governance tools, templates, reports and processes and achieve on-going improvements in effectiveness for board meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing skills at a high level including the presentation of information using advanced technology to deliver high quality outputs
  • The ability to assess, review, analyse and challenge the content and quality of information provided for meetings, and then negotiate with senior leaders to redraft.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, engage and build relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, and establish credibility with senior leaders.
  • Strong systems thinking skills, able to quickly develop an understanding of context in relation to the requirements of the senior leadership team.
  • The ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work.

MBIE works to better support, connect and strengthen businesses and Grow New Zealand for All. It backs New Zealand's talent, ideas and business enterprise through ensuring safe and fair workplaces, developing and supporting the science and innovation system, better supporting businesses and streamlining regulation.
