Compliance Risk and Intelligence Services (CRIS) is responsible for preventing and responding to immigration related offending and non-compliance. We develop and provide products and services that support quality decisions throughout the organisation, ensuring that risk is managed at the earliest point in the immigration process. We ensure that New Zealand's Borders are safe and that those individuals and groups that offend against the Immigration Act are dealt with promptly and efficiently.


About the role:


We have a fixed term opportunity for a Data Analyst to join our Intelligence & Risk (IRS) team and help to support the existing team with their busy workload.


The key responsibility of this position will be to provide data extraction services, including information requirement development, data query and the development of high volume data queries.


The successful candidate will be required to provide data, data analyses, and regular and ad hoc reporting and advisory services to support the intelligence unit.


To be successful in this role you will have:


  • Knowledge and experience in analysing business information needs and the ability to translate these into business information requirements
  • Experience in using specialist data mining and analytics software (preferably SAS based) tools to conduct complex analyses of large amounts of data or information
  • Knowledge of relational databases and business information tools/software
  • Proven ability to work with numbers and utilising these to underpin decisions with quantitative data
  • Proven ability to clearly present analysis and ideas on in person and on paper
  • Proven ability to translate complex and technical information into information easily understood by non-technical staff
  • Excellent communication, self-management and interpersonal skills and be confident in explaining user needs to senior leaders
