Te Kāhui Whakamana Rua Tekau mā Iwa – Pike River Recovery Agency was established by the Government on 31 January 2018 to:

  • Develop a plan for safe manned re-entry to the mine drift,
  • Make a recommendation to the Minister responsible for Pike River Re-entry on whether risks can be safely managed to low as reasonably practicable, and
  • If approved, implement the re-entry and recovery plan.

 

Throughout this process, the Government Agency is working in close consultation with Pike River families and their experts.

 

We are looking for unique individuals who are able to quickly build strong working relationships based on trust and transparency to manage, contribute and complete operational elements of the Pike River Re-entry work programme.

 

Combining your highly specialised New Zealand underground mining operations experience, you will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, controlling and reporting of assigned operational activities at the Pike River mine site in line with New Zealand statutory health and safety, ERA and mining legislation, regulations and industry standards.

 

The five fixed term roles based in Greymouth until June 2019 are as follows:

  • Mine Underviewer/Health and Safety Manager, reports to the Chief Operating Officer
  • Electrical Superintendent/Mine Gas Technician, reports to the Mine Underviewer/Health and Safety Manager
  • Control Room Operator/Mine Worker, reports to the Mine Underviewer/Health and Safety Manager
  • Mine Deputy/Mine Worker, reports to the Mine Underviewer/Health and Safety Manager
  • Senior Mine Assistant/Mechanical Superintendent, reports to the Chief Operating Officer

 

To be successful in the roles you must at least possess the essential requirements listed in the respective job descriptions. These range from the following, relative to the role:

  • A current Certificate of Competence as a Coal Mine Underviewer or higher
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, ideally Mining, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or relevant National Qualification
  • A current Certificate of Competence as a Coal Mine Deputy
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Significant experience in all facets of underground operations
  • Thorough understanding of the current relevant New Zealand health and safety, ERA and mining legislation and regulations standards
  • The legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
