We are looking for an experienced and energetic Senior Policy Advisor to join the Energy Markets Policy team at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), based in Wellington. This assignment would be for a fixed term length of approx. one year until June 2019. We are open to receive expressions of interest (external) secondments into MBIE as well.

This is an exciting role created to add support our existing advisory function in relation to climate change and New Zealand's transition to a low emissions economy.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working across agencies to influence across portfolios
  • An understanding of the role of government, regulators and the policy process

Why work for us?

It is an exciting time to be working in energy sector policy.  New technologies are transforming the energy sector form the inside out and are challenging our existing regulatory frameworks.  The Energy Markets Policy team is at the centre of a number of new Government priorities including reviewing New Zealand's electricity prices, looking at New Zealand's frameworks for energy security and resilience, and advising on the role of the energy sector in contributing to the transition to a low emissions economy.

What we offer

Developing our policy staff is a key focus for MBIE. We aim to create a culture where policy staff are empowered to bring fresh perspectives to issues and to think outside the box.

Being the largest policy shop in NZ, MBIE offers significant opportunity for developing experience across a broad variety of areas. We encourage excellence and proactively support development through on-the-job learning, training courses, conferences and seminars, development programmes, secondments, rotations to other branches and study opportunities.
