Job Description

  • Provide guidance, advice and support to the Privacy Programme to deliver an up lift in privacy management capability at MBIE. 
  • Leading and contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of new processes and tools to ensure the successful delivery of the MBIE Privacy Programme. 
  • Work across the Ministry to understand current privacy practices and implement best-practice policies, processes and system
  • Provide advice and guidance on the Privacy Act and personal information management in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Fixed term contract until end June 2019

 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Advisor with a background in privacy with the ability to work across the organisation, with a wide range of stakeholders, on the Ministry's privacy programme. The role includes working with staff to design and develop policies, procedures and process for privacy at MBIE that are fit for purpose; clear; accessible and useable. You will need the ability to engage across MBIE at all levels and work to set a minimum standard for privacy at MBIE based on best practice and the needs of MBIE's business Groups, managers and staff.

 

The Privacy Programme is a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) wide initiative to set a minimum standard for privacy at MBIE, consistent with the organisation's obligations under the Privacy Act 1993 and the Government Chief Privacy Officers expectations. This will improve MBIE's privacy awareness and capability and move MBIE towards a whole of organisation approach to privacy.

 

This is a fixed term opportunity as the result of the approval for continuation of the Privacy Programme for the 2018/2019 year. The programme will set a strong foundation for privacy and personal information management at MBIE.

 

Skills and experience required:

 

The Senior Advisor - Privacy Programme will have:

 

  • Strong analytical skills
  • An ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with a wide range of people at all levels, both internal and external to MBIE
  • Experience in reviewing and implementing processes to enhance business improvement and service delivery
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
  • Work proactively, with little direct management
  • Developing implementation plans for new policies, process and systems
  • High degree of initiative and drive
  • Strategic, enthusiastic, opportunistic, collaborative and diplomatic.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • An excellent knowledge and understanding of Privacy legislation and policy processes
  • An ability to set the foundations for privacy in a large organisation
  • Strong relationship management skills 
  • An ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with a wide range of people
  • The ability to deliver successful outcomes in a demanding environment
  • Flexibility to adapt within a fast moving environment
  • Must have legal right to live and work in NZ
