Our Palmerston North regional office is expanding in response to the growth and complexity of the immigration needs of the education and tourism sectors in New Zealand, specialising in visa processing for these important contributors to our economy.

About the role

We're looking for confident and well-rounded people to join our busy visa processing team in Palmerston North.  As an Immigration Officer you will utilise your excellent analysis, judgement and decision-making skills to make quality visa decisions in a fast-paced environment.

To be successful in this role you will need to be decisive, action-oriented, logical, analytical and pragmatic. You are self-managing and can interpret and apply immigration instructions to manage immigration risk and contribute to positive outcomes for New Zealand.  We wish to hear from you if you are articulate, have strong cultural awareness and have a real passion for communicating with people from diverse backgrounds. 

Skills and experience required:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills – ability to convey concepts, policy and technical information clearly, accurately and concisely to a wide audience
  • Well organised with good time management. 
  • Self-motivated and positive team player
  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite) with ability to learn new systems and applications quickly
  • Mental agility – able to comprehend, interpret and apply immigration policy and demonstrate agility to pick up new and sometimes complex concepts
  • Act with integrity and have a passion for Public Service and a desire to contribute to the growth and development of New Zealand
  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be advantageous
