Job Description

  • New leadership role in the Corporate, Governance and Information (CGI) Group
  • Opportunity to design, develop and implement MBIE's organisational strategy system
  • Lead governance and change management maturity and provide important support to the Senior Leadership Team


About the role

Reporting to the DCE of Corporate, Governance and Information (CGI), you will be responsible for setting the organisational strategy and providing important services to the Senior Leadership Team.  You will have a forward looking focus and will make sure the governance models are working in a way that give effect to the direction of the organisation.  You will have high engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for an experienced leader with strategic nous, governance experience in a complex organisational context, demonstrated portfolio and programme management capability, strong relationship management skills and the ability to navigate through ambiguity. Leadership and influencing across large teams and managing relationships with internal and external governance groups and other government agencies is central to this role.


To succeed in the role you will need to display:

Proven track record of leading a team in a medium to large public sector or business organisation, connected and contributing to the wider organisation and ensuring the “one organisation” approach. 

  • Experience and knowledge of organisational and business strategy including developing strategies, systems and policy settings with the ability to be forward thinking.
  • Experience with the design and application of frameworks and business planning in a complex business environment. 
  • Deep understanding of good organisational governance practice and ability to embed a governance culture
  • Experience in design and implementation of programme and portfolio management practices and change management frameworks and systems across an organisation
  • Experience in and ability to appropriately engage with key central government and business stakeholders. 
  • Proven success in leading and managing a team and maintaining a team environment focussed on continuous improvement 
  • Strategic thinking to understand the overarching context, current policy agenda and priorities, applying foresight and judgement to shape the work programme and policy projects
  • Strong intellectual capability to analyse large, complex policy issues and readily grasp and synthesise the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others
  • Excellent change leadership, communication and coaching skills to embed a culture of excellence in the team.
  • Has the intellectual capability and judgement to manage multiple complex projects concurrently 
  • The ability to work at all levels of the organisation, influencing without authority and relating to and gaining the confidence of diverse stakeholders
  • Sound working knowledge and understanding of the machinery of government and processes that apply within the state sector.
