The Intelligence Unit provides services to a range of MBIE and external customers to enable risk and value considerations by decision makers.

About the role:

This position works in close partnership with the National Manager, Intelligence and the other Intelligence Managers to form a strong leadership group that shapes and supports an intelligence-informed operating model for MBIE. 

The Intelligence Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of an Intelligence team. The team undertakes a broad range of intelligence functions including intelligence analysis, collection planning, tasking and activity in support of intelligence requirements.  The Intelligence Unit operates a flexible working model. Each team's work programme is weighted towards particular intelligence needs, while still accommodating the full spectrum of potential intelligence work and contributing to shared/cross-cutting portfolios.  The work can range from intelligence that informs and supports operational activity, to assessment relating to significant, system-wide issues. 

In this particular role you will also have experience working in the National Security System, working across government and be familiar with working in a TS operational environment.

Skills and experience required:

  • Ability to lead, develop and manage a team
  • Developing and delivering a work programme, including enabling tools and processes
  • Developing trust and credibility with staff, managers, and customers
  • Quickly establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to operate and provide leadership in a dynamic regulatory environment with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Knowledge or experience of intelligence in the New Zealand government context is not required but may be an advantage.
