Job Description

  • Join a team and branch that work right across the Ministry
  • Reporting to Ministerial Services, with responsibilities in wider branch enterprise-level projects
  • Pivotal role to help transform our data and insights capability
  • Unleash the power of data and insights to support MBIE and our decision makers

 About the branch:

Ministerial Services and the branch are committed to being a data ready organisation that treats data as a corporate asset to be developed, maintained and utilised. Progressing from 'data to intelligence to insight' is a key priority for the branch, highlighting the potential to mine, match and gain insights from the data assets we hold and accumulate daily.  To do this, transformation is required in the way we find, use, access, manage, share and protect it.

To unleash the value of our data assets, action is underway on four fronts: capability, workflow, technology, and reporting standards – the deliverables of which will help transform the operating mode of the whole branch.

Given the wealth of data in Ministerial Services, the unit is foundational to this goal.

About the role

The Senior Advisor Data and Insights reports to the Team Leader Workflow in Ministerial Services, but will also work on branch enterprise-level projects and with other Managers on their initiatives where required.

As a Senior Advisor, you will bring specialist capability in data and insights to lift the maturity and capability of both Ministerial Services and the branch.

To deliver this, you will be responsible for leading initiatives and projects, some that solve immediate challenges, and some that help solve system-wide challenges. You will be delivering advice and guidance to teams and stakeholders on data and insights capability, and facilitating cross-system work and partnerships.

This role requires a self-starter who can play a lead role in transforming the unit and branch leveraging data-driven insights and capability.

Skills and Experience:

We are keen to hear from you if you have:

  • Understanding of the evolving data system and the role of data-enabled insights
  • Professional expertise in data management, data science or a related area
  • Ability to introduce new ways of looking at problems and adopt creative new approaches
  • Experience of working with diverse stakeholder groups to develop, support and implement people centred solutions
  • The ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to develop trust and credibility with senior managers, staff and key internal and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • Previous public sector experience is preferred
