  • Busy role with a high degree of client interaction

About the role

Due to an internal secondment, we have an opportunity for a Solicitor to join the Corporate & Registries Team within our Legal Branch. We have flexibility for the Solicitor to support either MBIE's Business Integrity Services Branch or the Energy & Resource Markets Branch. Depending on various different options to service our clients, we will need the Solicitor for between 6 and 12 months.

Skills and experience

To be successful in the role, you will need to have the following:
A tertiary qualification in law and a practising certificate
Experience in public law and a solid understanding of the mechanisms of government, or a desire to learn
Experience working in a relevant sector would be an advantage – for the Business Integrity Services Branch experience in the company, commercial or insolvency sectors, and for the Energy & Resource Markets Branch experience in the energy sector
Strong legal technical skills
Well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audience
Strong relationship management skills and an ability to work well with others
Enthusiasm, drive and a proactive nature

About Business Integrity Services

The Business Integrity Services Branch's mission is to help grow New Zealand for all by ensuring the quality and integrity of New Zealand's corporate registers, intellectual property rights, insolvency and trustee services, and management of criminal proceeds.

About Energy & Resource Markets

The Energy & Resource Markets Branch uses the external branch New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals. The Branch evaluates and processes permit applications, manages compliance, collects royalties on behalf of the Crown and provides advice on New Zealand's downstream energy markets.
