Job Description

The Ministry of Health is the Government's principal advisor on health and disability policy.  Our job is to protect the health of New Zealanders and, through leadership of the health and disability system, we help New Zealanders to live longer, healthier and more independent lives.  We work with health and disability providers and manage a programme of work that supports the Government's priorities.

 

We have a lot on in the Bowel Screening team, and as such are looking for a Programme Administrator to join the team on a 3 year fixed term basis.

 

This is a crucial role in the unit, where the successful applicant will provide high quality, timely support to the Programme Director and the wider team to enable them to achieve their goals.  This includes some project coordination with the main focus on administration, organising meetings, coordinating advisory groups, monitoring and managing finances, travel and purchasing, secretarial and administrative support. There will be other duties as requested to facilitate the running of the team.

 

To be successful in this role, you will need to be able demonstrate the following experience, skills and qualities:

  • Previous successful experience in a secretarial or administrative support role to a manager and/or team, including coordination of meetings and taking minutes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to manage relationships at all levels
  • A team player who takes responsibility for the overall success of the team
  • Ability to effectively manage own workload, plan ahead, anticipate issues and proactively resolve them
  • Ability to review others' work to ensure a consistently high standard of output
  • Computer savvy including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.  Experience with MS Visio and Project together with the Lotus Notes operating system would be advantage
  • Working knowledge of project administration
  • Knowledge and experience of accounting systems, eg Oracle
